Dutch Countryside
When people visit the Netherlands, they tend to flock to the nation’s capital of Amsterdam, and understandably so. However, take a short drive outside the city, and you’ll find quaint towns and landscapes. On a cold and gloomy March morning a few years back, I ventured to the Dutch countryside. These towns offer a different portrait of the Netherlands, illustrating the charms of rural Dutch life.
I explored everything from their vibrant downtowns to their quiet side streets. In between towns, I passed by barren fields and somber lakes. Though it may not carry the excitement of Amsterdam, the countryside illuminates how the vast majority of the country lives, and my journey out of the city granted me a deeper understanding of Dutch culture that would be easy to overlook otherwise.
