Travel Series: Tunisia
I am told
By a busy guide
That the blue is to keep them away:
(Mosquitos,
not tourists)
I squint
Hoping to see past the white walls
and the blue doors
And see the sea
Still blue,
but a deeper kind
To see a history
Millennia long
Too far to be seen from foreign eyes
Or remembered by foreign books
As on top of many layers,
Left by emperors and invaders ,
One cobblestone path holds what we see today
Greatness built on top of greatness
A country built on top of many others
Tunisia,
White and blue.
